Bismuth

50mm f/2.8 1.5x Anamorphic

2025

The Panomicron Bismuth is a 1.5x Anamorphic lens for Leica M Mount. The lens is rangefinder coupled and focuses down to 0.7m. It’s a 7 element/ 7 groups design, based on the Leica Elcan 50mm f/2 design from 1970.

The project is on kickstarter until the 23rd of Nov 2025

Holmium

2018-23

6x7 Rangefinder

The Holmium is a 6x7 Rangefinder designed from the ground up. There have been 3 versions of the camera, each with their own rangefinder design, attempting to improve usability and reliability. The latest version uses a sliding element design, and is designed by default to couple with the Bronica ETRSI 50mm f/2.8, giving a roughly 25mm f/1.4 equivalent.

All of the versions of the camera have their flaws, but V3 is the closest to being good, it only has some light leaking issues left.

All three versions are available to download for free

Chromium

The Chromium is a 24x24mm square format compact camera. It utilised a no-name shutter, and a no-name fisheye lens for the m43 system to achieve circular photos on the square frame.

The camera was my first true project including electronics - it’s a bit of a mess, and the motor advance isn’t great.

The files are available for free on GitHub , although the shutter that it was designed around is largely no longer available.

Carbon

The Carbon is a multi-format technical camera, designed to use digital backs and film backs, with copal shutter-ed lenses. The camera was a effectively an ALPA 12 TC clone (and propably a pretty lousy one at that), which I could only dream of affording at as a 19 year old.

The digital back I had was an old Mamiya one, I had gotten it after my intership at Hassleblad, where it was given to me as a parting gift by one of the senior employees there. I believe it was a trade-in they had laying around.

Rhodium

The Rhodium is a mod based on the Polaroid 360, turning it into a 4x5 handheld camera. I reverse engineered the cam so that it can couple to a different lens. In this case a 135 f/5.6 Caltar-ii N (Rodenstock).

Thulium

The Thulium is an Off-shoot of the Holmium, it’s a 6x9 body without the rangefinder and a much simpler advance system.

Oxygen

The Oxygen is a 65x24mm Panoramic camera, it has the same format as the Hasselblad X-Pan, The camera is designed to use M65 helicoids and mounts copal shutter lenses. The recommended lens is the Bronica ETRSI 50mm f/2.8, but any other copal lens should work, so long as it covers 645 or larger.

it’s free to download and modify. The camera was designed to be industrially printed with the MJF process, it has been successfully printed with FDM.
